Pet Trusts

Pet Trusts

It’s amazing how a pet becomes part of the family. Whether your family includes a single dog or cat, or a veritable zoo of furry companions, you will want to ensure that your estate plan provides for their care if something were to happen to you. Sadly, fewer than 20% of pet owners actually plan for their animals in this way.

  • What will happen to your "special friends" after you die?
  • Will they be abandoned, left to a shelter or placed with the wrong person?
  • Will they have the same level of care that you provided?

As of January 1, 2009, California will allow you to establish an enforceable trust, a "Pet Trust," to provide for the care of your animal companions if you pass away. If a Pet Trust does not make sense for your family, please be assured that we can take steps in drafting your personal estate plan to protect the welfare of your animal companions.
